Sublimation on puzzles (Cyprus)

Sublimation printing on puzzles in Cyprus — 200°C edge-to-edge on polyester-coated cardboard puzzles. Runs from 30 units, 5–7 business day lead time from Limassol.

Why sublimation on a corporate puzzle is a memorable Cyprus client gift

A Nicosia creative agency wanted 50 branded 500-piece puzzles as a year-end client gift, each carrying an edge-to-edge full-colour photograph of the agency's most recent campaign. UV printing needed a flat panel and worked only on the lid; digital printing on cardboard faded quickly. Sublimation printed the photograph edge-to-edge on the polyester-coated 1.5 mm cardboard at 200°C in a flat heat-press, finished the run in 6 business days. Cost: €9.40 per puzzle on a 500-piece polyester-coated cardboard puzzle (230×330 mm finished).

Models and materials that work with sublimation on a puzzle

Sublimation requires a polyester-coated cardboard puzzle. The standard grade is 500-piece 1.5 mm polyester-coated cardboard (230×330 mm finished, A4+). The premium tier is 1000-piece 2 mm cardboard for premium client handover and 250-piece heart-shaped or shaped die-cut for bespoke campaigns. Sizes: 230×330 mm (standard), 280×400 mm (large). Print placements: edge-to-edge full-surface (220×320 mm standard, 270×390 mm large).

Sublimation specifics: paper, dye, and press

Standard production: print artwork in reverse on sublimation paper using a Sawgrass SG500 with SubliJet-HD dye-based ink, lay on the polyester-coated cardboard, heat-press at 200°C for 60 seconds in a flat-bed heat-press, medium pressure. The dye sublimates from solid to gas and bonds with the polyester coating. The print sits inside the coating — no film, no raised surface. The puzzle pieces are then die-cut with a CNC cutting machine at 1.5 mm tolerance. Each piece is a separate die-cut tile with the printed image continuing across all 500 tiles.

Bundling and packaging

Puzzles ship individually in 250×340 mm kraft mailers (€0.40 per mailer uplift) or in a kraft gift box with a 1.5 mm lid for premium tiers (€1.40 per box uplift). Bulk deliveries go in master cartons of 20 puzzles each.

Frequently asked questions

Can sublimation print on a cardboard puzzle?

Yes — but the cardboard must be polyester-coated. Standard cardboard puzzles do not take sublimation; the dye needs the polymer coating to bond.

Can sublimation reproduce a photographic image?

Yes — sublimation prints full CMYK at 1440 dpi edge-to-edge on the polyester coating.

How are the puzzle pieces cut after sublimation?

CNC die-cut at 1.5 mm tolerance. Each piece is a separate die-cut tile with the printed image continuing across all tiles.

What is the largest puzzle size?

The largest is the 1000-piece 280×400 mm cardboard puzzle.

Can the puzzle include a shaped die-cut?

Yes — heart-shaped, circular, and bespoke die-cut shapes are available at +€0.80 per puzzle for the custom cutting die.

Can each puzzle carry a unique image?

Yes — variable-data sublimation is included up to 30 unique images (limited by the print run). Above 30 we charge €0.80 per unique image after the first 30.
