Pricing, AED quotes and discount tiers for corporate merch in the UAE | Merch the UAE
What makes a UAE quote in AED go up or down, where the volume discounts sit, and how to plan a programme that hits the right price point for corporate buyers in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and the wider region.
Pricing in plain terms
Every UAE corporate merch quote is in AED by default, with the relevant VAT treatment set by the buyer's tax status. The dirham is pegged to the US dollar at AED 3.6725, which means USD-denominated quotes are mechanical and FX risk on invoice-to-payment is effectively zero. The unit price is built from three layers: the blank unit cost, the decoration cost per piece, and the one-time setup cost amortised across the order. Discounts come from volume, from repeat programmes, and from packaging optimisation. This page walks through each layer and the levers that move the quote.
The three layers of unit price
A unit price is not a single number. It is a sum of three components that you can read on every quote we issue.
Layer 1 is the blank unit cost: the cost of the undecorated product sourced from the manufacturer. For a stock product this is the supplier's published price; for a custom product it includes the material, the production labour and the supplier's margin. Stock products are typically sourced from manufacturers in China, Pakistan, Turkey and Vietnam; custom products may be sourced from regional mills in the GCC or from European makers for premium lines.
Layer 2 is the decoration cost per piece: the cost of applying your logo or design to each piece. This is the labour time and the consumables (ink, thread, laser time, resin) for the decoration process. In the UAE, embroidery is the dominant technique for caps, apparel and bags; UV printing is dominant for tech accessories and metal items; laser engraving is dominant for premium pens, power banks and notebooks.
Layer 3 is the one-time setup cost: the cost of preparing the decoration tooling (screens, embroidery discs, laser programmes, print plates). This is a fixed cost that does not scale with volume, so it has a much larger impact on small orders than on large ones.
The unit price in the quote is (Layer 1 + Layer 2) + (Layer 3 / quantity). For a 100-piece order, the setup cost divided by 100 is a meaningful addition; for a 1,000-piece order, it is rounding error.
Volume discount tiers in the UAE
Volume discounts are real, but they kick in at thresholds that may surprise buyers used to smaller GCC procurement patterns. Here is the realistic discount curve for a UAE programme.
The first tier starts at 250 pieces. Discount: 5–10% off the blank unit cost. This tier is achievable for most corporate programmes and is the practical entry point for a meaningful discount.
The second tier starts at 500 pieces. Discount: 10–18% off the blank unit cost. The decoration cost does not typically discount at this tier — the labour time per piece is fixed.
The third tier starts at 1,000 pieces. Discount: 18–28% off the blank unit cost. The decoration cost starts to compress because the production runs more efficiently at higher volume.
The fourth tier starts at 2,500 pieces. Discount: up to 35% off the blank unit cost. This is the volume where we move to direct mill production rather than workshop decoration, and the savings are significant.
Each tier is set per product and per decoration method. The blanket 'volume discount' does not apply uniformly — a high-setup decoration method (screen printing with four colours) discounts less steeply than a low-setup method (digital print). For UAE buyers running large employee merch programmes (think 5,000+ pieces for a UAE-wide rollout), we recommend a tiered quote that shows the price at 250, 500, 1,000, 2,500 and 5,000 pieces so the procurement team can see the full curve.
Decoration pricing matrix in AED
Decoration cost per piece depends on the technique, the number of colours, the print area and the substrate. The table below summarises the realistic per-piece cost ranges for the most common techniques, quoted in AED.
Embroidery: AED 2.95–AED 11.00 per piece depending on stitch count. Logo digitisation: AED 90–AED 220 one-time. Per-piece cost decreases by roughly 20% at 1,000 pieces.
Screen printing: AED 1.10–AED 5.50 per piece per colour. Screen setup: AED 55–AED 90 per colour one-time. Four-colour print at 500 pieces runs AED 5.50–AED 9.20 per piece total decoration cost.
DTG (direct-to-garment): AED 5.50–AED 14.70 per piece for full-colour prints. No screen setup. Best for short runs and complex artwork.
DTF (direct-to-film): AED 3.65–AED 9.20 per piece for full-colour prints. Film setup: AED 1.85–AED 3.65 per piece. Lower cost than DTG at moderate volumes.
UV printing: AED 1.85–AED 11.00 per piece depending on size and substrate. No screen setup. Fast for short runs.
Laser engraving: AED 1.10–AED 5.50 per piece depending on engraving area and material. Setup: AED 37–AED 110 one-time.
Pad printing: AED 1.45–AED 4.40 per piece per colour. Pad setup: AED 90–AED 145 per colour one-time.
Doming: AED 0.75–AED 2.20 per piece plus resin and dispensing setup.
Freight, packaging and add-ons in the UAE
Freight and packaging are quoted separately and can be a meaningful part of the total. The realistic cost ranges for UAE and GCC destinations.
Freight within Dubai: AED 50–AED 250 depending on weight, volume and urgency. same-day delivery in Dubai (Business Bay, DIFC, JLT, Dubai Marina, Al Quoz, Dubai Investment Park) is typically AED 100–AED 250. Next-day to Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman is AED 80–AED 200.
Freight within the UAE: AED 0.40–AED 1.10 per piece for regional road freight from the Jebel Ali manufacturing cluster to Abu Dhabi or the northern emirates. Air freight via Dubai International Airport (DXB) or Al Maktoum International (DWC) is faster but more expensive.
Freight within the GCC: AED 0.15–AED 0.50 per piece for sea freight from Jebel Ali Port to Dammam or Jeddah; AED 80–AED 350 per shipment for road freight into Oman via the Hatta border or the Al Batha crossing. Air freight via DXB or DWC to GCC airports is typically AED 1.50–AED 4.00 per piece.
Packaging: bulk packaging is included. Retail-ready packaging (individual boxes with barcodes) is AED 1.10–AED 5.50 per piece. Gift-ready packaging (wrap, ribbon, insert card) is AED 5.50–AED 14.70 per piece. Bespoke packaging (client-specified gift box with magnetic closure or fabric wrap) is AED 11.00–AED 55.00 per piece.
Insert cards, name tags, gift messages and personalisation labels are additional line items, typically AED 0.35–AED 2.95 per piece plus a one-time setup fee of AED 110–AED 295 per design.
What moves the UAE quote up
Beyond volume and decoration, several variables move the unit price up. Knowing them helps the brief hit the right target.
Custom Pantone dyeing: adds 15–30% to the blank unit cost. Custom fabric finishes: adds 10–20%. Recycled materials (GRS, rPET): adds 10–25%. Food-contact certification (LFGB, EU 1935/2004, GCC food-contact standards): adds 5–10% on top of the lab testing cost.
Multiple decoration positions (e.g. chest + sleeve + back): adds 30–60% to the decoration cost per piece because each position is a separate setup. We recommend consolidating decoration positions where the design allows.
Special packaging (gift boxes, magnetic closures, fabric wraps, satin-lined lids): adds AED 5.50–AED 55.00 per piece. Bespoke packaging with custom tooling has a one-time mould/tooling fee of AED 1,800–AED 18,400 amortised across the run.
Tight deadlines: rush surcharge of 25–35% applies for compressed production windows. We can deliver a small stock order in 5–7 working days when needed for a time-sensitive event at DIFC, ADGM or one of the major trade-show venues (Dubai World Trade Centre, ADNEC, Expo City Dubai).
Bilingual artwork (Arabic + English) on the same piece: typically no surcharge because the artwork is treated as a single multi-colour design. Two-position bilingual artwork (Arabic on the chest, English on the back) is a separate setup and adds the standard multi-position surcharge.
What does NOT change the UAE quote
Some things look like they should change the price but do not, because the supplier's cost structure does not change.
Colour count below four for screen printing: most decoration setups accommodate up to four colours without surcharge. Five or more colours triggers a per-piece surcharge because most production lines are optimised for four-colour work.
Standard sizes (XS through 3XL): included. Bespoke sizes (4XL, 5XL, custom lengths) trigger a surcharge because the blanks are not held in stock and have to be ordered in.
Standard decoration area (chest 10×10 cm, back 30×40 cm): included. Oversize decoration (full front wrap, all-over print) triggers a surcharge because the print area is larger and the production rate is slower.
GCC delivery with a valid TRN-equivalent on the buyer side: included. GCC delivery without the TRN-equivalent is treated as a domestic UAE supply (since the goods leave the UAE) and the 5% VAT applies.
Standard packaging (bulk pack, poly bag, individual box): included. Bespoke packaging triggers a surcharge as described in the packaging section.
Frameworks, retainer pricing and multi-year programmes
For UAE buyers running multi-year merch programmes (a typical pattern for financial institutions in DIFC, energy majors in ADNEC, hospitality groups and government-linked entities), we offer framework pricing that locks unit costs for 12 months and provides pre-agreed setup rates.
Framework pricing covers the unit cost of the most common SKUs (caps, polos, notebooks, pens, tote bags, tech accessories), the digitisation cost for the first ten logo positions, and the freight rates from Jebel Ali to any UAE emirate. Additional SKUs and ad-hoc requirements are priced separately.
The framework typically reduces the per-order setup cost by 50–70% because digitisation is amortised across the framework term. The buyer also gets a dedicated account manager, a monthly stock report (where the framework includes consigned stock), and priority scheduling during peak windows (Ramadan, GITEX, ADIPEC, year-end VIP client hampers).
Framework terms are typically 12 months with an automatic renewal option. Either side can exit with 60 days' notice. Pricing is reviewed annually based on material cost indices (the polyester filament index, the cotton futures index, the cotton yarn index) and on AED-USD FX stability (effectively a non-issue given the peg).
For UAE government and semi-government buyers, the framework is structured to align with the procurement cycle (typically annual) and to support the buyer's internal approval workflow. The framework contract is signed under UAE Commercial Law and stamped by the buyer's procurement authority.
VAT 5%, reverse charge and how the UAE tax mechanics affect what you pay
The headline 5% VAT applies to most UAE-issued invoices for domestic buyers. There are three scenarios where the VAT treatment is different, and each one is worth understanding for the procurement team's reconciliation.
Scenario 1 — reverse charge for GCC buyers. A GCC buyer with a valid TRN-equivalent is invoiced VAT-free under the GCC reverse charge mechanism. The buyer self-accounts for VAT in their home country. The TRN-equivalent is verified before invoicing (ZATCA in Saudi Arabia, NBR in Bahrain, OTA in Oman, QR-ETA in Qatar, KTC in Kuwait).
Scenario 2 — zero-rated exports to non-resident buyers. A buyer outside the GCC is invoiced VAT-free provided the goods physically leave the UAE. The export documentation (commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading or air waybill, customs declaration) is attached to the invoice and kept on file for five years under UAE tax record-keeping requirements.
Scenario 3 — Designated Zone transfer. A buyer inside a UAE Designated Zone (DAFZA, JAFZA, DMCC, ADGM and others defined by Cabinet Decision No. 59 of 2017) can sometimes receive a zero-rated supply, depending on what happens to the goods inside the Designated Zone and whether they are eventually consumed in the UAE mainland. The treatment is conditional and requires supporting documentation.
For most UAE domestic corporate programmes, the answer is straightforward: 5% VAT applies on top of the net quote, registered with the FTA via EmaraTax, and the buyer reclaims it on their own VAT return if they are VAT-registered. The unit price in the quote is the net (pre-VAT) number.
Frequently asked questions
What discount can I expect at 500 pieces in the UAE?
10–18% off the blank unit cost for most products. The exact discount depends on the product, the decoration method and the production schedule. We send a tiered quote that shows the price at 250, 500, 1,000 and 2,500 pieces so you can see the curve.
Is the 5% VAT included in your AED quote?
It depends on the buyer. For domestic UAE clients with a valid TRN the quote is issued net and 5% VAT is added on the invoice via EmaraTax. For GCC buyers with a valid TRN-equivalent the invoice is zero-VAT under the reverse charge mechanism. For non-resident buyers the invoice is zero-VAT with the export documentation specified separately.
Can you match a competitor's quote?
Send us the competitor's quote and we will review it line by line. We do not always match — sometimes the competitor's quote is built on a different cost base (lower-grade blank, different decoration method, longer lead time). When we do match, we will tell you exactly what we are matching on.
Do you offer a price beat guarantee?
No. A price beat guarantee on corporate merch is usually a sign that the supplier is cutting corners on the blank grade, the decoration method or the labour conditions. We compete on quality, lead time and documentation. We will tell you when a quote is unrealistic.
Can I get a quote for a multi-year programme?
Yes. We offer framework agreements for buyers with a multi-year merch programme in the UAE. The framework locks the unit price for 12 months, sets the reorder lead time, and includes a dedicated account manager. The framework typically reduces the per-order setup cost by 50–70%.
What currencies do you accept?
AED for all UAE-registered buyers. USD for GCC and non-resident buyers, with the FX rate locked at the AED 3.6725 peg against the invoice date. EUR for European buyers via SWIFT, with the FX rate locked at the invoice date. We do not accept cryptocurrency.
Is Corp-Merch a partner or official sponsor of any events or brands covered on this page?
No. Corp-Merch coordinates merchandise-side work in B2B programmes and is independent of event organisers and brand owners. We are not affiliated with DIFC, ADGM, DAFZA, JAFZA, DMCC or any UAE free-zone authority beyond the standard commercial supplier relationship.
